Whether at work or home, transitioning from one computer to another can be difficult. You get things set just the way you like them only to find that you are switching over to something completely different. While you wonder how long it will take to get comfortable on a new machine, you can begin to prepare for the change.
Use a Hard Drive or Thumb Drive
Gone are the days of transferring information, one paper at a time, to a new place. Load all that you want to move onto a hard drive or thumb drive (depending on the amount that you need to move). Once you have it all off the old computer you can easily load it onto the new until with minimal hassle. At the very least you won’t be short any important information when you get ready to work.
Change Over the Settings
You had the computer set to go into hibernation at a set time. You had a fun picture of the kids as a screen saver. You even had the default settings to display colorful images of cities around the world in the background. Sit down at your desk with the assignment of changing over all the settings from the old computer to the new. The sooner the new unit feels comfortable the sooner you will be back to being productive.
Instead of panicking about transition, make a game plan and stick to it. If there is no way around it, just take your time and get your new computer into shape and ready for work. You will be pleased with the results when you make an effort to make things easier for yourself.
