If you have children, and have to work, you know that daycare is ridiculously expensive.  Of course, some areas of the country are more expensive than others, and when the cost of living increases, daycare costs generally do, as well.

When you are looking for a daycare, there are a few things that you can do to keep your costs down.  First, if you are able to do part time care, rather than full time, this may save you some money.  Look at the cost for both – sometimes it is not enough of a savings to make a difference.

Look at in home day cares as well as larger chain daycare centers.  Many times the care that you child will receive is going to be just as good, if not better in an in home daycare than in a larger facility.  In a larger facility, there may be more children per adult watching them.  They are frequently also quite a bit more expensive, and less flexible on their hours.

See if there is someone you know who would be willing to provide you with child care.  Whether this is a friend or family member, you may be surprised at who you can find to watch your child.  You don’t even have to ask it as a favor.  Offer to pay for the child care.  You may be able to save a lot of money over a daycare center of any kind this way.  This could be very beneficial to both parties.  If you know someone that stays at home with their own children, they may be looking for a little extra income, anyway.

Finding good child care for a decent price can be a frustrating battle.  Don’t give up – it is out there.  It may take time to find the perfect fit for your budget and your child, but in the end it is worth every second.
