Many people, once they are adults, feel that they were never properly taught about money and how to handle it.  Because of this, many parents are now making a push to teach their children about money, credit, and the pitfalls to avoid.  What are some things that you can do to help teach your children these things?

Start early:  If you wait until your child has their first job to teach them anything about money, they will have a harder time grasping it.  Not only that, but they may ignore your advice.  At this point in their lives, they will be in the mind set that they should be able to do what they want to.  If you start teaching your child about correctly handling money when they are younger, it is much more likely to stick.

Be consistent:  Teaching children about money, as with teaching them anything, is a constant process.  It is not something that you talk about once, and then leave them to themselves.  It is an ongoing thing.  When they get money for birthdays or holidays, talk to them about the benefits of putting this money away as savings.  Consider opening a savings account for your child, so that the money they earn can be put away.

Make a plan:  With your child, make a plan for their money.  If they are young, it will probably be a little more difficult to keep them on track.  But, if they have a toy or game that they really want, explain savings, and keep to the plan.  They will feel accomplished when they are able to buy it with their own money.

Teaching our children about money when they are young is important to their futures.  No one wants their children to make the mistakes that they did, and money mistakes are generally seen as some of the biggest.
